Telecast Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese firm specializing in manufacturing of digital CATV equipment; analog pay TV systems; and MMDS systems, today visited Pakistan and met various government officials including PEMRA Chairman Absar Alam.

Telecast Technology Corporation, during meetings, showed its interest in setting up a manufacturing unit in Pakistan to locally produce set top box for DTH and digital cable TV in the country.

It maybe recalled that PEMRA is in process of auctioning DTH licenses in Pakistan and is hoping to auction three DTH licenses by end of November 2016.

PEMRA has said that it has shortlisted 16 companies for the bidding and final auction is to take place during last week of November 2016.

PEMRA is also in process of digitizing the cable TV network in country. It has already asked cable operators to start deploying digital Cable TV network in the country.

An earlier deadline of May 30th, 2016 was set for complete digitization of Cable TV network in country, however, after input from cable TV operator this deadline was postponed.

A statement issued by PEMRA said that Chinese firm asked for authority’s support in setting up its manufacturing unit in Pakistan, for which Absar assured the delegation of all possible support but asked the delegation to submit a more detailed proposal for proper perusal.
